Boy Blue
A vintage Boy Blue biscuit tin converted to a unique hand-built steampunk dimmable lamp, with vintage valves, upcycled head, vintage oil-filled manometer and illuminated USB charging port.
The artwork has a skull-and-crossbones rotary switch/dimmer and an Edison-style E27 bulb to brighten the corners of your bothy. It has been fitted with rubber feet (not your bothy). The product is about 44cm wide, 40cm high and 13cm deep.
On the top resides six vintage thermionic valves, which glow blue. These are purely decorative and have no other function.
It has an illuminated USB charger port, itself powered by an internal stabilised power supply. Rubber feet have been added to the base.
Multi-coloured bubbles flicker to the left, above which resides an upcycled oil-filled manometer (pressure gauge).
The 15mm copper piping has brass fittings that are compression type with copper olives (not the type in a Martini, shaken not stirred).
The clockwork key and the pipe valve tap are decorative
On the right-hand side is an upcycled toy head with glowing eyes; all that remains of a discarded toy.
All electrics and electronics are new. The lamp appliance is Class I as defined in IEC 61140 and has been tested. The traditional burgundy fabric double insulated 3 core 1.7 metre cable includes an in-line black traditional Torpedo 6-amp rocker switch, which disconnects both the Live and Neutral, and complies with BS EN 6108-2-1. This cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363. The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland. Really, we didn’t just make that up.
