Ekco A144
Unusual steampunk system made from vintage Ekco A144 valve radio, over 70 years old. This artwork also includes upcycled and repurposed components.
The four vintage Bakelite-type switches perform, from right to left, Power to all, Frequency Selection Illumination, internal light, and Octopus-arm E14 lamp.
The two vintage valves on top perform no function other than looking pretty. An LED truck indicator performs blue “submarine” lighting below. On the right side is a blue illuminated double USB charger.
All electrics and electronics are new. There are four electronic modules within including the 12V power supply, 3V power supply, Bluetooth/lamp electronics and USB charging electronics. The appliance is Class II as defined in IEC 61140 and has been tested. The traditional coffee-coloured fabric double insulated 2 core 1.3 metre cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363.
This artwork is about 56 cm high X 62 cm wide X 27 cm deep.
