Gas Street Basin
Unusual hand-built steampunk full new 60W Bluetooth speaker system, made from a vintage piece of military test equipment, originally built by H.W.Sullivan of Dover.
This artwork also includes up-cycled and re purposed components. The original rotary switches serve no function.
There are three "launch" switches. The Red switch controls the power to the whole unit. The Yellow switch switched the lamp. The Blue switch switched the Bluetooth system.
A Bluetooth subsystem is installed internally, in the box at the top. When Blue switch is activated, the Bluetooth system becomes live and makes a pleasant "ding" when paired. It can be simply paired to a mobile phone or other Bluetooth audio source, which also controls the volume. Pair to device "Herdio HCS418". The speakers are new Pioneer speakers.
At the top front is a Sphygmomanometer and two vintage thermionic valves which flicker on top with a blue glow. These have no functionality. There is also a genuine "Gas Street Basin" thick brass plate from a barge.
On the front right side is a USB charger with a built-in voltmeter of the internal 12-volt Power Supply.
At the front, a glow emanates from underneath. The amber light on the right denotes that the power has been switched on. The blue light on the left denotes that the Bluetooth system is switched on.
On the left face, an octopus tentacle rises out of a porthole abd holds a lamp, operated by the yellow switch on the front. Below this is a Pioneer speaker.
On the right face there are many objects. An original vintage "Milk Man Please Knock" guage allows the user to set their milk order. A protruding pipe allows the adjustment of a tap that has no function, in a splash of copper, brass and steel. Below this resides the other Pioneer speaker.
All electrics and electronics are new. The appliance is Class I as defined in IEC 61140 and has been tested. The traditional burgundy fabric double insulated 3 core 1.2 metre cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363.
The main body of this artwork is 76cm wide by 51cm high by 30cm deep.
