Lamp of Valor
An individual hand-built steampunk double light, one dimmable, built from a weathered vintage paraffin can.
The can bears the legends "Valor" and has a faded "Esso Blue" label. In the late 1890s, the Anglo-American Oil Co introduced Royal Daylight lamp oil, and various other oil products. In 1951 the company changed its name to Esso Petroleum Co Ltd. Parafin was the fuel of choice for houses that could not burn coal due to the Clean Air Act and did not have central heating. I can remember a house full of paraffin stoves.
This item comes with two light bulbs. The spout houses an E14 flickering candle bulb which is controlled by a recessed switch. The other is a dimmable traditional E27 Edison-type bulb in a brass-coloured cage. This is controlled by a rotary dimmer with a "chicken head" guitar control knob.
The 1.4 metre red fabric flexible twisted double insulated 3-core cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363. The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland.
