Liam's Hand
An individual hand-built steampunk dimmable lamp, with USB charging port, built with upcycled, antique or vintage parts including a port bottle box, brass compass, brass garden tap, brass radiator key, UF41 thermionic radio valve, military valve shroud, canal barge brass plaque, brass/porcelain light switch, a working vintage bakelite voltmeter/milliammeter and Liam Neeson's hand from an action figure.
Touching the base of the key dims an Edison-style E27 bulb to brighten the corners of your bothy. The artwork is about 50cm wide X 30cm high X 17cm deep and has decorative bronze feet and straps.
The UF41 is a vari-mu amplifier pentode used for AGC controlled RF and IF amplification in superhet receivers. Type UF41 was first introduced in 1947. This is not active and glows blue. The military valve shroud behind it changes colour.
The garden tap has amber bubble coming out the top leading to a brass compass, for those that have lost all direction in life.
The red illuminated USB charger port, is powered by a 36 watt stabilised power supply.
All electrics and electronics are new. The lamp appliance is Class I as defined in IEC 61140 and has been tested. There are three electronic modules. The stabilised switching power supply, the step down electronics for the USB charger and the control circuitry for the touch dimmer. The burgundy vintage fabric flexible twisted double insulated 3 core 1.6 metre cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363, and is fitted with a 2 amp fuse. An additional spare fuse is included. The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland. Really, we didn’t just make that up.
