Money Eater

An individual hand-built steampunk dimmable lamp, with clock and USB charging port, built with upcycled, antique or vintage parts including a port bottle case, cast iron coin-eating novelty figure, canal barge brass plaque, brass door knobs and vintage bakelite working milliammeter.

The artwork has a rotary switch/dimmer and an Edison-style E27 bulb to brighten the corners of your bothy. The container is about 45cm wide X 28cm high X 20cm deep and has decorative bronze feet and straps.

It has a switched golden dimmer control in front of the lamp. The electric clock on the front, which hides an illuminated USB charger port, is powered by a 30 watt stabilised power supply.

All electrics and electronics are new. There are three electronic modules. The stabilised switching power supply, the step down electronics for the USB charger and the control circuitry for the dimmer. The red vintage fabric flexible twisted double insulated 2 core 1.7 metre cable includes an in-line black traditional Torpedo 6 amp rocker switch, which disconnects both the Live and Neutral, and complies with BS EN 6108-2-1.  This cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363,  and is fitted with a 1 amp fuse. An additional spare fuse is included.  The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland. Really, we didn’t just make that up.

The meter is a working vintage Sparton Milliammeter, from Canada. The cast iron figure is of unknown age, but is assumed to be old. The brass plaque is from a canal barge.

The clockwork key at the front is for decoration.

The brass doorknobs are only decorative and do not open a door to the other world
