Nanny State - Blue
A vintage baby millk tin converted to a unique hand-built steampunk dimmable lamp, with veterinary syringe, stopcock, car mirror indicator assembly, lamp dimmer and illuminated USB charging port.
National Dried Milk, introduced in 1941, was a full-cream milk that was roller-dried to a powder, and fortified with vitamin D. It was intended for feeding to children at a time of milk rationing. It was also convenient for mothers. It freed them up from breast-feeding at a time when women had to go man the factories for the war effort.
The veterinary syringe has been decommissioned and is unable to be used for a fix of Ketamine (Say Neigh to drugs!)
There are three electronic modules within; a switching-mode power supply, light dimmer and a step-down supply for the USB charger.
The artwork has a rotary switch/dimmer and an Edison-style E27 bulb to brighten the corners of your bothy. It has been fitted with rubber feet (not your bothy).
The product is about 35cm wide, 40cm high and 15cm deep.
The re-purposed car indicator produces an eerie blue glow from below.
Blue bubbles flicker within the syringe.
The 15mm copper piping has brass fittings that are compression type with copper olives (not the type in a Martini, shaken not stirred).
The traditional navy blue fabric double insulated 3 core 1.5 metre cable is terminated with a black 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363. The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland. Really, we didn’t just make that up.
Please note this is a limited batch of eight. The vintage tins are originals and show different levels of ageing. The artworks are hand-made so will bear small differences.
