Paddy’s Lamp
An individual hand-built genuine Connemara whiskey box, converted to a steampunk dimmable lamp, with clock and USB charging port.
Connemara is a peated single malt whiskey, Connemara is double-distilled rather than the more usual triple-distillation process that most Irish whiskeys undergo. It is aged in Bourbon casks. Several versions are found; single-cask, cask-strength, 12-year, and a high-peat version called "Turf Mór." Cooley Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery, located on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland, converted in 1987 from an older potato alcohol plant by John Teeling. On 16 December 2011 Beam Inc. announced plans to purchase Cooley for around US$95 million (€71 million). The sale closed on 17 January 2012. Beam was then purchased by Suntory Holdings on 30 April 2014, and became its Beam Suntory subsidiary. Alas, the bottle has been drained (a pleasurable experience for the staff), removed and also converted to a lamp, leaving only the empty hull of the cylinder and the memory of what could have been.
The converted artwork now has a rotary switch/dimmer and an Edison-style E27 bulb to brighten the corners of your bothy. It has been fitted with rubber feet (not your bothy). The container is about 24cm high with a 10cm square diameter.
It has a switched silver dimmer control to the right and a battery-powered clock, which hides an illuminated USB charger port, itself powered by a 30 watt stabilised power supply. Green submarine lighting glows beneath the base.
Whiskey-coloured bubble flicker to the left, above which resides a manometer (pressure gauge) has a scale of 1 Bar / 30 psi. Normally this will read zero. If the unit is about 70 ft / 20M under water, the meter will read full-scale. Due to the electrical nature of this product, this activity is NOT recommended. It is NOT waterproof.
The 10mm copper piping has brass fittings that are compression type with copper olives (not the type in a Martini, shaken not stirred).
If you doubt its Irish-ness, then see that it comes with a GENUINE shamrock and an artificial snake similar to the very snakes that St.Patrick drove out of Ireland.
The green vintage fabric flexible twisted double insulated 3 core 1.7 meter cable includes an in-line black traditional Torpedo 6 amp rocker switch, which disconnects both the Live and Neutral, and complies with BS EN 6108-2-1. This cable is terminated with a GREEN 13-amp plug, which complies with BS 1363, and is fitted with a 2 amp fuse. An additional spare fuse is included. The other end is terminated with a black IP68 compression TRS M12 cable stuffing gland. Really, we didn’t just make that up.
